Tamaqua discusses Bungalow Park projects

Tamaqua Borough Council started planning for the summer this week, discussing several projects at the Bungalow Park.

Council decided to have the borough work force demolish the old concession stand and regrade the area to a natural slope. That work was scheduled to begin this week.They also approved additional improvements to the drainage project that was started in the park area.Borough workers will run additional pipe, branching off the original drainage pipe in an effort to prevent the wet, soggy conditions found after heavy rains.Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt was given permission to get quotes to replace the roof on the Bungalow Pavilion.In other pool related business, rates for the H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool will remain the same for the 2017 season. Residents of the Tamaqua Area School District will pay $10 per person, while those living outside of the district will be able to obtain a pass for $100 per person.Temporary guest passes will once again be available for $20 per person per week (two week maximum). Daily rates will also remain the same at $5 per person on weekdays, $6 on weekend, for residents and $15 per day, $20 on weekends for nonresidents.Opening day for the pool will be June 2, and the anticipated closing date is Aug. 27. Pool pass applications will be available at borough hall beginning April 3. Council has again opted to make pool passes available to patrons of the Lansford pool, which is still closed pending renovations, at the same rates that were offered last year. Members of the Lansford Pool committee will be facilitating those transactions.Members of the Recreation and Youth committee advised council that the concession stand vendor issues have been resolved, and the stand will be operating with the same vendor under the current lease agreement.The borough is also planning to use CDBG funding to renovate the bath houses at the pool. Originally, the borough was hoping to receive grants to demolish the old ones and replace them; however, that funding did not come through.The borough feels that with CDBG funding, the bath houses can be suitably renovated.Council is currently advertising for part-time lifeguards and pool clerks.
