Annual Special Olympics bowling competition held in Carbon County

The Carbon County Chapter of the Special Olympics held its bowling competition on Saturday afternoon.

This is the 11th annual bowling competition hosted in Carbon County. Sixty-one bowlers came out to compete Saturday.The bowlers began training in late November and bowled weekly in preparation for this event.They are separated based on their ability level.Chris Anthony has been running the training and competition since its inception 11 years ago. The organization is completely volunteer-based and self-funded.Besides bowling, Special Olympics Carbon County offers track and field, power lifting and bocce. Power lifting preseason will begin at 5 p.m. March 5 at Dedicated Fitness. Track and field training will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturdayat the L.B. Morris Elementary gymnasium.Volunteers are needed for Special Olympics Carbon County. They are currently seeking someone who can commit long-term for a management team.The following bowlers were gold medalists and will be advancing to the Eastern Spring Bowling Sectionals for Special Olympics of Pennsylvania, which will be held on March 26 in Allentown:Division 1, Alex Gerstenberg; Division 2, Luke Drake; Division 3, Jean O’Connor; Division 4, Frank Kerosetz and Patrick Jarret; Division 5, Aidan Smith; Division 6, Ciaran Smyth; Division 7, Wayne Branch; Division 8, Alfred Henry; Division 9, Carl Klager; Division 10, Tim Maillet; Division 11, Korey Steinberg; Division 12, John Devore; and Division 13, Jose Karnish.
