Lower Towamensing accepting bids for blacktop, stone

The Lower Towamensing Township board of supervisors is accepting bids for blacktop and stone. Bids have to be submitted by 10 a.m. March 13 in the township building.

The amounts sought are similar to what the township purchased last year, Chairman Brent Green said.In other business, Green said he met with Charlie Shupp, the township's roadmaster, and they came up with a few roads that could use some repair in the next construction season. Among the roads mentioned by Green and the supervisors were Golf, Hazelwood, Sand Quarry and roads in Little Gap Estates."Once those roads start failing, it's going to be a significant problem," Green said about Little Gap Estates. The borough has $300,000 from the Liquid Fuels Tax Fund that could be used to help pay for the road construction projects, he said."I think we should go as far as $300,000 will take us, so we don't have to take from the general budget," Supervisor Ron Walbert said.Green asked the supervisors to think about any other roads they would like to add to the list."We have several roads that have problems," he said. "In the next month, we are going to get a list together. We'll look through our funds and tackle as much as we can."The board also discussed the launching of the new website, which they expect to occur in early March."Our domain expired, which is why our website is down," Green said. It went down in October. They discussed which domain to launch the website through and opted to go with GoDaddy for a 10-year contract at $190.70. The township hired Virtual Towns and Schools in Boxborough, Massachusetts, to design the new website.Green suggested that they update their email addresses to give each department an email under the township, instead of through the person leading the department. Some of the emails have been going to people's employers, he said.
