BMHS offers low-impact aerobics for 55 and up

Blue Mountain Health System offers monthly low-impact aerobics for New Seasons members, 55 years of age and over.

The group meets three times a week from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at The Zoo Fitness Center, 1241 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East in Lehighton.To enroll in the class, you must be a member of New Seasons, which is a free program for people 55 and over. Members may register to participate in the aerobics class. There is a nominal fee.Leader Connie Heckman, certified senior aerobics instructor, says the most important reason to stay physically active as an elderly individual is to improve or maintain your overall health.Low-impact exercise is a type of exercise where the amount of stress placed upon the joints of your knees, hips and ankles is relatively minimal. You always have one foot on the floor.
