'As the Matzo Ball Turns' now a stage musical

"As the Matzo Ball Turns" will bring its musical stylings to the Jim Thorpe Olympian Auditorium for its debut.

Heart of a Lion and La Princesa production companies have joined together for the first installment of the original show based on Jozef Rothstein's book.The tongue-in-cheek novel is about his 10-year pursuit of fame and fortune while living in Los Angeles as he tried to break into show business.Gene Duffy wrote and self-published the book under Rothstein pen name. The novel follows Duffy's journey as he worked in a Jewish deli, where he encountered hit men, drag queens, ladies of the evening, runaways and celebrities. The book documents his events and interactions, while striving for his big break into what he describes as "not the most scrupulous industry.""The book has fun with it," says Duffy. "If I don't laugh about it, I'll cry myself to sleep."A laundry list of talent has been tapped to create and expedite this made for Broadway dramedy.Duffy wears many hats in the production, including director. He partnered with Danny DeMelfi to write the music. Shari Kennedy choreographed the stage show. Sebastian Paff is the music director. Lavender Lady FX Group provides the special effects, and Jane Longazel works as production coordinator.The weekend of Jan. 13 will host four separate show times at 1 Olympian Way.
