Palmerton man pleads in three pending cases

A Palmerton man entered guilty pleas in three pending criminal cases and is seeking placement in a special state program at the time of sentencing.

Carl Lloyd Miller Jr., 32, pleaded to one count each of criminal trespass, a felony three; driving under the influence and driving under suspension-DUI related; and possession of a controlled substance by an inmate.Miller was arrested on the trespass charge on Nov. 7, 2015, by Palmerton police. He entered Spillane's Fit, at 260 Delaware Ave., and stole a hair dryer. The DUI and suspension counts stem from a June 4 arrest by state police at Lehighton along Bridge Street in Weissport. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance. In that case he was originally charged with 41 counts, including 33 summary offenses. The possession count also stems from the DUI arrest. He was taken to the county prison after being arraigned on the DUI charge and while being processed prison officials found heroin on him.Miller is seeking placement in the state Intermediate Punishment program. The program runs for two years, during which a defendant spends time in a state prison, followed by inpatient placement in a drug and alcohol program and then the final period in a halfway house.Matika remanded Miller to the custody of the sheriff so he could be transported to a state prison to be evaluated for the state SIP program. If he is accepted he will be sentenced at a later date by Matika via video. If he does not qualify, he will be brought back before Matika for sentencing.
