A Weissport resident was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday afternoon on two driving under the influence charges, which he previously pleaded guilty to.

He was one of four defendants sentenced on DUI charges by Judge Steven R. Serfass.In state prisonMarc Earl Stoss, 45, who recently was sentenced to a state prison term by another county judge, was sentenced to serve a total of three to 24 months in a state correctional institution. The term will run consecutive to a 100 days to two years prison term imposed by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II on Sept. 5 on another DUI charge.He was arrested on the first count on April 24, 2015, along White Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.08 BAC. The second arrest was also made by state police along Bridge Street in Weissport on Aug. 28, 2015. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.He is also serving a six-month state prison term for a probation violation, consecutive to the other terms. He recently completed a prison term in Lehigh County, it was noted.The new term was for DUI and driving under suspension-DUI related.He was also ordered to pay fines totaling $2,000, license suspensions totaling three years, and render 200 hours of community service when paroled.Other casesSamuel Heydt, 36, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve a total of 12 to 60 months in prison on charges of DUI, driving under suspension-DUI related and criminal trespass.The trespass charge stems from an incident on June 30 filed by Jim Thorpe police. Police found him sleeping in an apartment in the 500 block of Center Street, which was unoccupied at the time. He was not permitted to be there.The DUI was for an incident on June 12 at Second and Fern streets filed by Jim Thorpe police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.In addition to the prison term, Serfass ordered Heydt to pay total fines of $3,000 and two-year license suspensions for the DUI and suspension count, supply a DNA sample, and render a total of 200 hours of community service when released on parole.Currently an inmate in the county prison, Heydt was given credit for 97 days spent in jail on the charges.Rogelio Ortiz, 27, of Palmerton was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail on a DUI count.Before the start of the sentencing proceeding Ortiz entered a guilty plea to one count of false identification to law enforcement. Lehighton police charged him on Jan. 22 following a traffic stop along Route 443. At the stop he gave another name to police before admitting to his real name.On that count he was sentenced to time-served, 37 days, to one year in jail. He must also pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, and render a total of 75 hours of community service. On two summary driving under suspension counts he was fined a total of $400.He was given credit for three days on the DUI charge and parole.Jason A. Rao, 40, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve a total of 90 days to five years on a DUI charge. He was also sentenced on two counts of driving under suspension-DUI related and one count of possession of a controlled substance.He was arrested on Nov. 15, 2012, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East by Mahoning Township police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance in his system. At the time he was driving under suspension-DUI related.He was also ordered to pay fines totaling $3,000, license suspensions totaling three and a half years, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, and render a total of 150 hours of community service when released on parole. He was given credit for 20 days against the sentences.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. Nov. 28.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 monthly supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
