Veterans Day events

• Lehigh Carbon Community College (will be honoring veterans with a series of events at its main campus in Schnecksville. Staff, students, area veterans and members of the public are encouraged to support the college's veterans and participate in the following events: 10 a.m. Tuesday- Connecting Children and Veterans at the Early Learning Center, Science Hall Room 122; 11 a.m. Wednesday- Ritter Elementary School Chorus Performance in the Student Union, followed by a luncheon; 12:30 p.m. Thursday- Veterans Forum in the Community Services Center; 11 a.m. Friday- Veterans Day Flag Ceremony outside the Student Services Center at the flagpole, followed by a luncheon.

• The Carbon County Veterans Affairs office will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 1 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Josiah White Park in Jim Thorpe. All are welcome to attend.• The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that all driver's license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.• The American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert, will hold its annual Veterans Day services at 11 a.m. Nov. 11. Guest speakers include state Sen. Mario Scavello, state Rep. Jack Rader, state Rep. Rosemary Brown. The services are open to the public, and it will be an indoor event. Refreshments and a light lunch will be served.• At 8 a.m. Nov. 11, veterans will go to Pleasant Valley Elementary School, where they will meet the buses. The children will enter the school and line the halls to salute the veterans as they enter. Everyone will go into the auditorium to listen to the veterans' stories, which will end at 10 a.m.• The Shrine of St. Therese will honor all veterans during a special veterans retreat from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the shrine, 15 E. Garibaldi Ave., Nesquehoning. Those who wish to attend the event can sign up at
