Slatington seeks grant for water line project

The Borough of Slatington will throw its hat into the 2017 grant award cycle for assistance with the Shadow Oaks Lane water line replacement project.

Tuesday night the borough council passed Resolution R-15-16 making a motion to apply for financial help with the large repair and replacement of the water line. The cost for the line work is an estimated $300,000. The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program Grant from Commonwealth Financing Authority will save the borough $195,000. The remaining 35 percent will be paid from the Slatington water fund.Borough Secretary Duane Dellecker said, "It's a high-priority project. There has already been repairs on different section of the line."According to the firm hired to fix the issue, Arrow Engineers, an announcement will be made by the end of the year regarding the recipients of the grant. Should Slatington be awarded the funds, the construction will begin within months of the approval.
