New chapter opens for Weatherly library

The Weatherly Area Community Library celebrated finding their new home with a grand opening for the community on Saturday.

The new location has allowed the library to expand from one room to having a children's room, a lounge area for reading, conference room, offices and the library. There are plans to make a kitchenette area in the future."We're very excited for Weatherly and for the surrounding communities," said Sueann Gerhard, the president of the Weatherly Area Community Library board. "It is a positive addition to our community."Library cards are available for the community free of charge. The library has two computers and Wi-Fi for public use.The library is planning to use its new space for community activities for children and adults including game nights, story time, a book club for adults and coloring for adults. The library also plans to feature local authors and have book signings.A book sale and raffle were held as part of the grand opening."A lot of the community helped," said Joe Cyburt, the town councilman. "It was a community effort. It's nice to see it all together."Local artist Bruce Brazzo donated approximately 25 paintings to the library, which is featured throughout the building. Bruce Brazzo is an award-winning artist local to Hazleton."I'm hoping our students make it a regular visit," said Tom McLaughlin, superintendent of Weatherly Area School District. "It's a great resource."The new location also makes the library a more convenient stop for residents."We hope we can get more involved in the community," said Rachel Witner. The prospect of a book club was exciting for Witner and her family enjoyed the new children room."The building was a sewing company, bowling alley, shoe lasts and finally a library," Gerhard said. "And it's going to stay that way."The library is at 1518 Brenkman Drive, Weatherly. More information can be found at weatherlylibrary.org.
