Two facing multiple charges in Tamaqua

Two people were charged by Tamaqua police after they tried to cash a stolen check on Sept. 22.

Officers were called to the Wells Fargo Bank on West Broad Street at 11 a.m. after an employee became suspicious of a woman trying to cash a check. As officers arrived, they saw Joshua DeWire, 27, who currently has no permanent address, yelling and causing a disturbance.Once inside the bank they were met by the bank manager, who had already called the customer whose name was on the check and confirmed it had been stolen.The woman attempting to cash the check, Megan Matousek, 23, of 634 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, had left the bank but was found minutes later walking on the road leading to the transfer station. She said she was cashing the check for DeWire.Matousek was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua on felony charges of conspiracy to commit forgery and forgery, as well as misdemeanor charges of theft by deception.She was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville in lieu of $10,000 percentage bail and a warrant was issued for DeWire's arrest.Officers found DeWire on Sept. 23 and served the warrant. He was arraigned before Bayer on charges of conspiracy to commit forgery, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia as a hypodermic needle was found on him when he was searched. He too was sent to the county prison in lieu of $10,000 percentage bail.Both also face charges of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
