Western Pocono library plans Sept. 11 events

This Sept. 11 will mark 15 years since the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.

The Western Pocono Community Library is planning a day of remembrance to mark the occasion.The ceremony, which has been planned in conjunction with the Zion United Lutheran Church, will feature prayer and local emergency services personnel and equipment. The children of the library's Storybook Theater will be singing.The Warriors Watch Riders of NEPA and the 9/11 Tribute Trike will be attending as well.Activities will center on the unveiling of a piece of steel recovered from ground zero in New York. The piece of debris will eventually be on permanent display at the Monroe County Heritage Center."9/11 will be remembered not just for the horrific event that it was; but for where we were and what we were doing at that very moment the news came over the airwave," said library director Carol H. Kern. "A memory never to be erased by time. It will be here at Western Pocono Community Library that future generations will be able to view an actual chunk of twisted, molten metal from the twin towers, view photographs and read articles telling of the horrific details of the days and weeks that followed."The tribute is being planned by Kern; Patti Weiss, director of the Storybook Theater; and Bonnie Buncher, program coordinator.The ceremony will begin at 2

p.m.Sept. 11 at the library located at 131 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville.Guests are being asked to bring nonperishable food items for donation to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Food Pantry.
