Charges dismissed against officer in traffic stop

READING, Pa. (AP) - A judge has dismissed criminal charges against an eastern Pennsylvania police officer accused of punching a woman and smashing her cellphone during a traffic stop.

Reading officer Jesus Santiago-DeJesus appeared Wednesday in a Berks County district court on charges including official oppression and evidence-tampering.WFMZ-TV (http://bit.ly/29fBoir ) reports that District Judge Thomas Xavios dismissed all charges against the 27-year-old officer, who has been on the force for four years.Prosecutors said the officer reported that the woman didn't use a turn signal before the April stop, but surveillance video from nearby homes and businesses showed that she did. They alleged that he knocked the phone out of the woman's hand to destroy the video she was recording and punched her. Charges filed against her and her passenger were later dropped.---Information from: WFMZ-TV,
