Franklin discusses stray cat problem

Karen Geiger, who lives on Fairview Street in Franklin Township, told supervisors last week there are "a lot of cats" roaming in her neighborhood.

She said one came on her property which was suspected to be rabid. She told the supervisors, "I called 50,000 people" in an effort to get action on the cat, including the Carbon County Telecommunications Commission, cat rescue agencies and various shelters."Nobody would come to get the cat," she said.Supervisor Robin D. Cressley said he was informed that cats can be taken to an animal shelter to be neutered or spayed, at the expense of the individual who brings it. Then the cat is released again.Zoning officer Carl Faust said, "Those things are like gremlins. You get them and there's 50 more of them."Green said other municipalities have similar problems with cats. The township will inform the Carbon County Commissioners of the concern.
