Eatery helps fire-damaged business

Jim Thorpe's Union Publick House on 212 Center St., will host a fundraising event from 5-9 p.m. today for the staff of Stone Row Pub and Eatery.

The restaurant on Race Street sustained damage after a fire broke out in the early morning hours of June 23. Area fire companies responded to the call in the historic district.Owner Charlie Sproule said, "The building has extensive smoke damage and every window is broken. We have to close for a few weeks to clean up the mess. The good news is everyone is safe because our smoke alarms were doing their job."Union Publick House will be donating 20 percent of its food sales to be distributed among Stone Row's staff with owners matching the amount raised. Stone Row's bartenders will be guest bartending during the event."Serious thanks to UPH for this. The hospitality of this town has been truly amazing," said Stone Row bartender Jakky Johnson.Local musicians will be on hand to entertain the crowd during this event."We are truly appreciative of all the community support we've been receiving. We're already in the process of rebuilding and also concentrating on taking care of our staff so they have an income until we reopen," Sproule said.
