Carbon to continue program for seniors

Carbon County is continuing a state program as part of the services the Area Agency on Aging provides the senior community.

On Thursday, the commissioners approved a request to have the Area Agency on Aging continue to be the fiscal manager for the Pennsylvania Link to Aging and Disabilities Resources from July 1 through June 30, 2017.Link to Aging and Disability Resources is a statewide, Pennsylvania Department of Aging led collaboration of local, state and federal agencies working together to promote the integration of long-term care information and assistance services to help seniors and adults with disabilities to live and age well regardless of income.The board also renewed contracts with Dawn Edwards of White Haven and Julie Rovinski-Mann of Jim Thorpe.Edwards will continue as the lead Link coordinator for the next fiscal year at the same rate of $25 per hour, not to exceed $26,000 a year, subject to funding availability.Rovinski-Mann will continue as the Link coordinator for the fiscal year at a rate of $22 per hour, not to exceed $22,800 a year, subject to funding availability.Other businessThe commissioners approved:• The resignation of the Rev. Doris S. Bray from the Housing Authority. She was appointed to the board in December 1998.Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard thanked her for her years of service.• Commended the Wildlands Conservancy for its continued sponsorship of the Lehigh River sojourn.• The resignation of Terrence C. Smith of Summit Hill, part-time dispatcher at the Communications Center, effective June 22.• Change of status of Bernard J. Newhard of Jim Thorpe, from summer supervisor, Liquid Fuels, and temporary parking attendant, to summer supervisor, Liquid Fuels, effective June 22.• Hired Chris D. Gehres of Jim Thorpe, part-time parking/meter attendant, effective June 25.• A leave of absence for Maureen P. Lenar of Lehighton, cleaning person, from July 12 to July 31.
