Mahoning man charged with pulling gun on parents

A Mahoning Township man accused of pulling a gun on his parents faces simple assault and reckless endangerment charges.

Jay Reinheimer, 23, cocked and pointed the .45-caliber at his father inside their Mahoning Mountain Road home after his parents would not give him money to buy suboxone," Mahoning Township Patrolman Corey Frey wrote in affidavit of probable cause. The incident happened just before 11:30 a.m. on May 28 and, according to Jay's mother, the request for drug money is a "never ending circle."By the time Frey got to the home, Jay's mother had taken the gun and placed it in her vehicle."I observed broken objects scattered around the floor in the basement area," Frey wrote.Jay walked away from police into the garage and then outside before being apprehended."Jay said he punched his dad in the face, but never pulled a gun on him," Frey wrote. His mother, however, told police Jay asked for $100 to buy suboxone. After being told no, he got a gun, pointed it at his father. When his father tried to get the firearm, Jay dropped it and started punching him.Police got the gun from under the passenger seat of his mother's vehicle."There were eight live rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber," Frey wrote. "I patted Jay down before placing him in the patrol car and found a capped syringe in his right shorts pocket."Jay also faces possession of drug paraphernalia, harassment and terroristic threat charges after telling his father he was going to "blow his head off," according to Frey.Mahoning Township Police Chief Audie Mertz said Jay was incarcerated in Carbon County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 29.
