Schuylkill County court

A warrant was issued for the arrest ofBruce Matalavage, 56, of Owl Creek Road in Tamaqua after he failed to appear for a May 10 preliminary hearing before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua.

Matalavage was due in court to answer to felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, as well as a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges were filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Rodgers in connection with a March 11 incident.His bail was set at $25,000 straight when he was arraigned on March 16, which he was originally unable to post. Matalavage spent one day in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville before he was able to post bond.All other defendants scheduled for preliminary hearings before Bayer elected to waive those hearings to the Schuylkill County court.They included:Brian David Jones, 36, of West Spruce Street, Mahanoy City, who was charged with making a false statement to police in connection with a Sept. 26, 2015 incident. He was charged by state police Trooper Alan Zulick.He was released on $5,000 bail.Gerald R. Fisher Jr., 37, of 17 Snyder Ave., McAdoo, charged with simple assault and harassment. The charges were filed by trooper Brian O'Connor after a Feb. 23 incident.He was released on $5,000 bail.Garrett Novotnak, 22, of 156 N. Fourth St., Hamburg, facing charges of criminal attempt to possess a prohibited firearm and making a false statement filed by Zulick. The charges stem from an Oct. 16, 2015, incident.He was released on his own recognizance.Joseph Robert Holland, 24, of 339 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City, charged with fleeing police, reckless endangerment, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, reckless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance. The charges are from an April 24 incident and were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Peter Sandor.He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.Holland was also in court to answer to charges of receiving stolen property, filed by trooper Michael Allar on April 24.On that charge, Holland's bail was set at $10,000 percentage, which he was unable to post. He was sent to the Schuylkill County prison.Charles Hauseman, 32, of Wilkes-Barre was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension-DUI related, driving a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker, scattering rubbish and driving with a suspended license. The charges were filed by Coaldale patrolman Charles Blesse after a March 19 incident.James Longenberger, 69, of Mahanoy Plane faced charges of disorderly conduct, open lewdness and harassment, filed by Rush Township patrolman Corey Herring. The charges stem from a Feb. 26 incident in Hometown.He was released on his own recognizance.Thomas L. Bilsak, 27, of Hazle Township was charged with possession of a controlled substance, four counts of retail theft, providing false identification and two counts of receiving stolen property. The charges were filed by Rush Township patrolman Lucas Fox after a March 29 incident in Hometown.He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.Heather Lea Loar, 36, of 110 Hunter St., Tamaqua, charged with making a false insurance claim and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception. The charges stem from an Aug. 16, 2014, incident and were filed by agent Bradley Davis of the Office of the Attorney General.She was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.Jose A. Ruiz, 42, of 328 Wyoming St., Hazleton, was in court on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under suspension - DUI related. The charges were filed by McAdoo patrolman Lucas Fox.He was released on his own recognizance.
