Kidder doesn't make list for 903 traffic light money

Last year, Kidder Township supervisors recognized the need for a traffic light at the intersection of Route 903 and Lake Drive.

Township Manager Lisa Klem submitted an application to the state for a grant to help pay for the signal. On Monday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced that $12 million in grants had been awarded for traffic signal improvement throughout the state, but Kidder Township was not one of the towns chosen to receive the funds."We were not successful in obtaining the grant," Klem said."In fact nobody in Carbon County received any of the money."Monroe County received money for a light upgrade in Pocono Township.Klem added that the township had put the money aside for the project and requested approval from the board to proceed with advertising the project for bids. The township had requested that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation install the light previously but the PennDOT traffic studies did not indicate that there was a need. The studies were completed before the new slip ramp opened from the Pennsylvania Turnpike onto Route 903 in Penn Forest Township last summer.
