Meet and Greet

The budding artists who participated in the "Senior Art Project" over the past two months will be the guests of honor at an artist meet and greet on Thursdayat the Tamaqua Community Art Center.The five-week project was a cooperative effort bringing together the Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group and residents of the Tamaqua ABC High Rise and Majestic House Apartments Complexes.Almost two dozen participants took advantage of the opportunity to learn from professional artists including Kimberly Tanzos, who works with fibers; Claire Marcus, who works with paper; Michael Pyrdsa, landscape painter; and Marilyn Hazleton, creative writing.The meet and greet will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. this Thursday.The art center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.BloodmobileA Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on May 18 at St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets. Hours will be from 1-6 p.m.This visit is being sponsored by the church.Anyone 18 or older who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood. Walk-ins are welcome.Summer readingThe Tamaqua Public Library's Summer Reading Program will begin June 20 and continue through Aug. 4.Sessions will be age specific and will be held weekly, with the exception of the week of July 4. Identical sessions for children up to the age of 5 will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
