Man failed to stop for school bus, gets DUI

A Carbon County man's failure to stop for a school bus in Mahoning Township has resulted in a DUI/drug arrest.

The township's police department said that at 10 a.m. April 6, police received a complaint from George's Transportation, who reported vehicles were failing to stop for the school bus while it is dropping students off around 3:55-4:05 p.m. on Route 443 at stop locations of SR443 between Fredericks Grove Road and Ashtown Road.A police vehicle followed the school bus on April 6 while it dropped students off, when, in the 1700 block of 443, police observed a Chevy Express Van fail to slow for the buses flashing amber lights. The van continued past the bus after its red lights had been activated, and was subsequently stopped by police.As a result of the investigation, police seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia.The driver of the van, Chad Eschbach, 35, of Lansford, has been charged with three counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance; possession of a small amount of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; two counts of meeting or overtaking school bus; and careless driving.A passenger in the van, Michael Odonnell, 24, of Summit Hill, has been charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.Preliminary hearings have been set for May 25.
