The lack of a profitable enrollment has caused the Mauch Chunk Board of Education to close its VA-sponsored Machinist School in the high school building.

This decision was reached at the monthly meeting of the school fathers, after Thomas Schrader, school supervisor, recommended it in the face of a continuing decreasing enrollment.The school is unable to accept new enrollments, and as trainees complete their course, they are accepted into industry, causing the school enrollment to drop off.James Van Horn, who is in charge of the classes, and Joseph Rader, stock clerk, will be retained for several days to complete the inventory of equipment and to grease the machinery for storage.
