Positions were set Tuesday for state races in the general election.

None of the representatives in the state house had opposition Tuesday and apparently will not have any in the fall.In the 124th district, which includes the Tamaqua area along with Coaldale in Schuylkill, and Summit Hill in Carbon County, incumbent Jerry Knowles got 6,155 token votes. In the 125th, incumbent Republican Mike Tobash got 7,741 votes.In the 123rd, incumbent Democrat Neil Goodman got 5,932 votes. Unless someone other that the incumbents get the nomination of the opposing party by write-in, the three are headed for re-election in the fall.In the 29th state senatorial district incumbent Republican David Argall of Tamaqua was unopposed and got 19,520. Unless someone other than him got the Democratic nod Tuesday by write-in, he will be unopposed in the fall and assured of another term.The counting of all write-in votes will begin on Friday.There were two ballot questions; however, votes did not count for the one pertaining to judges' retirement ages. A state court ruled that the question be placed on the November general election ballot. It was too late to remove if from Tuesday's ballot. The question was defeated in Schuylkill, 19,358 to 15,720. It also lost statewide.The second question was for the elimination of traffic court in Philadelphia. In the county that question received 18,650 yes votes to 15,274 no. Statewide the question was passed.Delegate positionsBoth parties had delegate positions up for election for the national conventions later this year.Two Schuylkill county residents will represent the 17th congressional district at the Republican convention in Cleveland in July. The district also includes Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe and Northampton counties.Carolyn L. Bonkoski, of West Brunswick Township is one of three GOPers who will go to the convention in Cleveland on July 18-21. The other two delegates from the district are Teresa Lynette Villano, of West Pittston, Luzerne County, and Gloria Lee Snover, Bethlehem Township, Northampton County.Mary Beth Dougherty, of Girardville, of Schuylkill, will join Paul M. Defabo, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, and Thomas Whitehead, Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County, as alternate delegates. They were the only ones seeking the nomination.On the Democratic side Guy T. Anthony, of Shenandoah, is one of seven who will represent the district at the Democratic national convention in Philadelphia, July 25-28.The other three male delegates are John Ferguson, Edward O'Brien and William Courtwright. The three female delegates are Grace McGregor Kramer, Jennifer Newland and Susan Maureen Hall. Courtney Washo was picked as an alternate and was the only candidate.
