$12K in grants from Raider Foundation

Several Tamaqua Area School District teachers will receive grants totaling more than $12,000 from the Tamaqua Blue Raider Foundation at its annual grants ceremony on May 13 at The Station Restaurant.

Teachers receiving grants ranging from $300 to $3,200 are:• Kimberly A. Woodward and Deb Sweeney, "Kindness Challenge - Be the Change," Tamaqua Middle School• Dylan Peters, "Maker Space (STEM Lab)," Tamaqua Elementary• Angela Faust, "Technology Based - Extending the Story," Tamaqua Elementary• Susan Featro and Michelle Argust, "iPad Language Support" at West Penn Elementary, Tamaqua Elementary and Tamaqua Middle School• Nicole P. Evans, Erika Davis, Abigail Neverosky, Michele Bittner, "Trout in the Classroom," West Penn Elementary• Amanda Peters, LeeAnn Matteo, Kristen Tubbs, Julia Shoff, Caitlin Ligenza, "Individualized Learning through the iStartSmart Learning Tablet" at West Penn Elementary• Jolene Barron, to expand an elementary school program "Learning with LEGOs: WeDo STEM."In addition, the foundation will present a full scholarship to Olivia Lattanzi to attend Penn State's Multimedia Journalism Workshop in July.Foundation President Robert A. Miller III will also announce the endowment of two new scholarships."I always look forward to this time of year because we see what creative teachers we have in the Tamaqua school system," Miller said."We at the foundation are only too happy to support their efforts."Tickets for the awards ceremony are $50 each and include a donation to the foundation, which is a not-for profit, 501(c)3 organization.Tickets are available at the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, Beyrent Agency, and law offices of Bowe, Lisella and Bowe.
