Husband admits to strangling estranged wife in her apartment

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania man has admitted to killing his estranged wife by shoving a sock in her mouth, taping her mouth shut and choking her because he was upset that she spent the night with her ex-boyfriend.

Twenty-five-year-old Gordon Rohrbaugh pleaded guilty on Thursday to third-degree murder in the October 2015 death of 26-year-old Jillian Rohrbaugh and was sentenced to 20 to 40 years behind bars. The Fleetwood man apologized to his wife's family in the courtroom.Prosecutors say he went to Jillian Rohrbaugh's Whitehall Township apartment and "lost it" after she said she had been intimate with her ex-boyfriend. Detectives say he choked her and knotted an electrical cord around her neck.The two married in July 2015 but had separated amid what authorities called a toxic relationship.
