Cleanup events for Earth Day weekend

Here is a list of some of the litter cleanup days taking place in Schuylkill and Carbon counties around the Earth Day weekend.

TodayFriends of Beltzville State Park will hold a cleanup event. Volunteers can meet at 6 p.m. today at the park's Environmental Interpretive Center.Saturday• The annual "Schuylkill Keep it Pretty" cleanup will be occurring at sites all over Schuylkill County.• The Jim Thorpe Earth Day Festival Lehigh River Cleanup will take place between 9 and noon Saturday. Participants will meet in Josiah White Park (Broadway and Route 209) in front of the green VW Bus. Trash bags and gloves will be distributed upon arrival. Each volunteer will receive a free food voucher at the festival's organic food stand after they are finished with the cleanup. Rain date is Sunday.• Lansford Alive will hold a communitywide cleanup Saturday at 9 a.m. in Kennedy Park. Vests, gloves and bags will be provided. If residents want to clean up another day, they can get materials by contacting the organization at

lansfordalive@gmail.com.• Lehigh Township will hold a Take Pride in our Township day starting at 8:30 a.m. They'll clean up municipal roadways and report illegal dump sites. Volunteers can meet at the Lehigh Township Building, 1741 S. Lehigh Gorge Drive in Weatherly.• The GAR Cemetery in Summit Hill will be holding its spring cleanup in the cemetery at 9 a.m. Saturday. Please bring garbage bags and gloves.SundayCoaldale CHOSE will hold its earth day cleanup at 1 p.m. Sunday, starting at the Coaldale Complex on High Street. It will continue throughout the town. Light snacks and refreshments to follow.
