Suicide prevention

A Suicide Prevention Taskforce meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Tamaqua Community Art Center.The meeting will include the presentation of a "Save a Life Video" created by high school students. Participants will also learn the common causes of suicide, the warning signs and how to get help, individually or for a loved one or friend.No registration is required. The art center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.Drug disposal dayThe Tamaqua Police Department is participating in the 2016 National Drug Take Back Day, which is scheduled for April 30.Residents may take their old or no longer needed prescription drugs to the station, where they will then be disposed of in a responsible matter.The goal of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.An officer will be at the Tamaqua Police Station, rear 320 E.
