Palmerton FBLA members to compete at states

Numerous members of Palmerton Area High School's Future Business Leaders of America will be attending the state competition from April 11 to 13 in Hershey.

Of the club's 87 members, 43 members qualified for the state competition.Of those who qualified, 40 will be attending the competition. They will compete with other students from throughout the state in their event. The top 10 students in each event will receive awards, and the top four students will be eligible to attend the national competition in June in Atlanta, Georgia.Those qualifying for the state competition received their awards on Dec. 15 at the Region 21 Leadership Conference held at Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony. The other high schools in attendance were Panther Valley, Pleasant Valley, Lehighton, Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South, and Pocono Mountain East, as well as Lehighton Middle School.Dressed in business attire at the conference, the students attended workshops on careers, attire, leadership, and community service.Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week and Rotary International made presentations, as well as local business people who talked about their careers.The club's current chapter advisers and Region 21 advisers are Jennifer Danzeisen and Kerry Palumbo.Palmerton students who qualified for the state competition include: Jenna Wallace, business communication, fourth place; Alyssa Miller, business law, third; Johanna Matsko, first, and Tyra Wentz, second, both for computer application.Jagr Andress, cybersecurity, fifth; Brynn Boehler, Vithusha Selvavelautham and Abegail Shupp, first, second and third place respectively, all in database; Gavin Scott and Cowan Unger, first and fourth place, both in economics; Rebekah Maehrer, fourth, health care administration; Devon Santos, fourth, help desk; Tyler King, Benjamin Everett and Colby Moyer, first, third and fourth place, all in insurance.Matt Binder and Nate Taylor, first and third place, both in introduction to business; Owen Mendes, Ryan Yacone and Lucas Christman, first, second and fourth; all in Introduction to Financial Math; Noah Schaffer and Devin Rivera, fourth and fifth, both in Introduction to Information Technology; Seth Andress, Networking Concepts, first; Ian Farrell and Mercey Melo, first and second, both in personal finance; Seth Howell, Jacob Taylor and Lauren Fegely, first, second and third, spreadsheets.Bryce Beahm, Gabby Sabina and Lindsey Shimko, first, second and third, word processing; Sami Kester and Becca Sterling, both third place in graphic design; Jacob Martinez, Public Speaking 1, first place.Bailey Shirk, Client Service, first place; Connor Haney, Cybersecurity, fourth; Reshaun Selvavelautham, FBLA principles and procedures, third; Abby Huber and Taylor Hirochek, Top 10 in Introduction to Business Presentation; Hannah Pepper and Erika Beers, Top 10 in Ebusiness; Emy Rasim, Electronic Career Portfolio, Top 10; and Jarrett Long, sales presentation, Top 10.
