FEBRUARY 26, 1969The Carbon County School Board officially approved a 40-acre tract of land at the Lehighton Airport as a future site for school construction by the Lehighton Area School District.Lehighton’s Planning Commission, however, rejected the site on the basis that the area was considered prime residential land.Edgar Smith, county board president, said the school district’s problem with regard to the planning commission’s feeling is a local problem and has nothing to do with the county board.Jacob Arner, airport operator, owns the majority of the land. A tract adjacent to the airport is owned by Lloyd Schafer.
