A Philadelphia man was given a Carbon County prison term on Thursday after previously pleading guilty to an assault count at a forestry camp.

Alex Pagan, 21, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 6 to 12 months in prison on simple assault. A charge of aggravated assault was dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.Pagan was charged by state police at Fern Ridge with assaulting an employee of the Camp Adams forestry camp in Kidder Township for juvenile offenders on Dec. 10, 2015. Pagan had been placed in the camp by a Philadelphia judge.Pagan had to re-enter his plea Thursday. He withdrew his initial plea because at the time his prior recordwas not correct because it failed to include juvenile convictions.Pagan was also ordered to render 50 hours of community service when released on parole, pay court costs of $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision while on parole, and have no contact with the victim. He was given credit for 70 days already spent in jail on the charge. He was granted work release privileges if he meets the standards at the prison.
