The Freedoms Foundation honored 612 people, schools, businessmen and organizations for things they did, said and wrote to promote the American way of life.

The recipients included Russell Thomas of Lansdale, formerly of Lansford, who received an honor certificate award for an editorial, "Freedom, a Cherished Legacy," and George Matrician of Summit Hill, who received the Valley Forge Teachers Medal Award.Thomas was born and raised in Lansford and served as managing editor and editor of the Lansford Record.Matrician is the music supervisor and band director at Panther Valley High School.
