FEBRUARY 19, 1967The Panther Valley Irish-American Association announced Msgr. J. Francis Haley, pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Summit Hill, will receive its Shamrock Award at the 20th annual St. Patrick’s Day dinner scheduled for March 17 in the Coaldale High School.A native of West Chester, Haley was elevated to the rank of monsignor last May. A World War II Army chaplain for three years, he received the Legion of Merit Award in recognition of his outstanding courage, fidelity and steadfast devotion to duty with disregard to personal safety in combat during a 90-day battle with the Japanese on New Guinea.Haley has been the diocesan director of the Apostleship of Prayer since 1963.
