A Nesquehoning man facing numerous charges after neighbors spotted his 1½-year-old son walking alone in the street failed to attend a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

District Judge Casimir Kosciolek held the hearing despite his absence and forwarded all charges for trial to Carbon County Court.In addition, Kosciolek requested that a judge issue a bench warrant for his arrest.The defendant, Travis Litts, 29, of West Catawissa Street, was charged by Nesquehoning police with endangering the welfare of children, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, simple assault - attempt by menace, and harassment.The hearing originally had been scheduled to be held a week ago but was continued at the request of Litts.The charges stem from incidents which happened at 1:03 p.m. Oct. 17. The arresting officer is Nesquehoning Chief of Police Sean T. Smith.Smith wrote in the affidavit that he received a phone call from a resident in the unit block of East Railroad Street who said she "found a 1½-year-old baby boy in the street near her residence, in the middle of Railroad Street in front of her house."Another neighbor also saw the child. The two took the child to his residence, the affidavit says. It adds that "a white male with short blond hair ripped the door open and slammed the door back in their faces."Smith said Litts then approached them "about 30 seconds to a minute later" and apologized, saying he had fallen asleep.The complainant said Litts turned around, started coming at her and the neighbor and threatened to "kill them."Smith and another officer went to the Litts residence and they "could tell from our experience and training that Litts was under the influence of a controlled substance."Smith said Litts changed his story several times. He also told Smith, "I did not threaten to kill them."He said they were making him angry and"I wanted them to leave me alone."A grandmother picked up the child.
