The 58th annual Lehigh County Honors Band Concert will feature more than 100 of the best student musicians in the county.

A dozen Northern Lehigh High School students will participate in the festival at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Allentown Central Catholic High School auditorium. The snow date is 2 p.m. Sunday.The host director this year is Aaron Hetrick, band director for Allentown Central High School.The Lehigh County Honors band includes students from the 11 high schools in Lehigh County: Northern Lehigh, Southern Lehigh, Whitehall, Northwestern Lehigh, Catasauqua, Salisbury, Allentown Central Catholic, Emmaus, Parkland, Dieruff and William Allen High School.Students are chosen by the Lehigh County Band Directors Association in December.Northern Lehigh students who have been selected for the festival this year include Emily Bachman, freshman; Austin Deibert, freshman; Kyle Detweiler, sophomore; Noah Freudenberger, senior; Breanna Hoffman, junior; Tyler Hoffman, junior; Nick Lehman, sophomore; Mike Martineau, freshman; Kira Rex, sophomore; Zach Rex, senior; Kasey Wayda, senior; and Cassie Zaleski, senior.Northern Lehigh Band Director Dave Carroll said, "I am, as always, very proud of my Northern Lehigh students.""The purpose of this festival is to promote music education in our schools, showcase the great musical talent that exists in Lehigh County, and to give our band students a unique and enriching instrumental experience which extends beyond the typical concert band settings that exist in most public schools," Carroll said."I am pleased at the level of preparation all of the students have done to prepare for this year's concert."The festival concert requires 20 hours of rehearsal by the students and band directors.Selections for this year's concert are: "The Star-Spangled Banner," "On the Mall," "Come, Sweet Death" by Bach, "Seagate Overture," "Cakewalk," "Shine," "Fantasia on the Dargason" from Holst's Second Suite in F, "Baba Yetu," "Halo Theme," "Afterlife," and "Chasing the Storm."
