Detective shot while investigating homicide

ALLENTOWN (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania detective investigating the death of a woman found in a recycling bin was injured in a shootout as he tried to serve a warrant in the case.

Allentown Police Chief Keith Morris says officers were approaching an apartment's door Tuesday night when they were met with gunfire. He says officers returned fire.He says the gunman barricaded himself inside before police stormed the home and took him into custody early Wednesday. No charges were announced.The detective was shot in the left arm. He was treated at a hospital and released. The suspect was hospitalized but his condition wasn't released. Neither was identified.The apartment is near where the unidentified woman's body was found Sunday in a large blue recycling container.The Lehigh County coroner's office said Tuesday that an autopsy concluded that the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled homicide.Police said the body was found Sunday afternoon in a bag in the large blue recycling container in the parking lot of the Allentown complex.Authorities are seeking help from the public in identifying the woman, who is described as between 18 and 30 years old, of Asian descent, about 5-foot or 5-foot-1 and 119 pounds with short black hair and pink fingernail polish and wearing black pants, a green sweater with white collar and cuffs and sneakers.She has a surgical scar on her left forearm, about 6 to 7 inches long, and multiple scars on her right forearm.According to the Lehigh County Coroner's office, she had multiple pieces of jewelry including a yellow metal bracelet with the inscription, "A daughter is a little girl who grows up to be a friend."Anyone with information can contact the coroner's office at 610-783-3426 or the Allentown Police Department at 610-437-7721.
