Construction crews recently began a project to replace Tamaqua’s community pool.
“The contractor is up there taking out the old pool,” borough manager Kevin Steigerwalt said at a recent council meeting.
The H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool at Bungalow Park will be closed this season as work continues.
The project is expected to be finished next spring.
Project costs are estimated at $3.3 million. The borough received a $1.75 million grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and additional grants will cover most of the remainder.
The rebuild is necessary since the pool’s walls were deteriorating and beyond repair.
