The Walnutport Borough Council appointed officer Peter Wayda to the position of sergeant on the borough police department. The position has been vacant since Joseph Pennisi was appointed chief of police last year.

A member of the 29th graduating class of the Allentown Police Academy in 1982, Wayda began his police career in 1981 as a part-time officer with the Alburtis Police Department. He came to Walnutport as a part-time officer in 1982, moving to full-time in April 1984.In 1985, he was the first recipient of the Walnutport Police Department’s “Chief’s Award” and received a commendation for the apprehension of a burglary suspect caught in the act of committing a crime.
