Revenue from deeds

Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Emmett P. McCall reported his office recorded 250 deeds, 181 mortgages and 336 other writs during the month of December.As a result of those transactions, McCall turned over to the Carbon County General Fund the sum of $28,903.18. A breakdown of that revenue includes: transfer fees, $22,820; data processing fees, $1,888.02; notaries, $30; commission on transfers and writs, $3,073.76; and Affordable Housing administrative fee, $727.80.McCall remitted $383.50 in state writ taxes to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, while Carbon County municipalities and school districts shared realty transfer tax disbursements totaling $153,066.89, the same amount that was forwarded to the state in realty transfer taxes.McCall deposited $2,298 in the Recorder of Deeds Record Improvement Fund and $1,532 in the Carbon County Records Improvement Fund, these being fees assessed by state law on each transaction for records management needs. An additional $24,779 was collected and remitted to the state for its Judicial Computer System program.Also, $6,184.60 was collected last month for the Affordable Housing Program in Carbon County.In all, funds collected in the Recorder's office last month amounted to $370,214.06.Prothonotary's reportA total of 268 cases were started in December in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:Assessment appeals, 2; civil actions, 25; custody complaints, 19; district justice appeals, 6; divorce complaints, 17; complaints in ejectment, 4; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 23; protection from abuse petitions, 26; quiet title actions, 3; zoning appeals, 2; court appointment, 1; judgments, 132; miscellaneous cases, 3; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 3. The office staff also received and processed 78 applications for U.S. passports.Behrens' financial report shows $30,529.93 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $25,708.13; interest income, $4.17; custody fees, $750; data processing fees, $4,067.63; and remote access fees, $11,600.The prothonotary also remitted $4,404.32 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $51.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
