At the December Towamensing Township supervisors' meeting Kennetta Lane was discussed because it is in such poor condition that the township does not want to take the garbage truck down the road for pickups.

On Monday, Bruce Reiner, a resident who lives along the road, which is partly paved but badly eroded on the unpaved part, said he had seen the letter supervisors sent to Ken George, developer, giving him 30 days to improve the road. George told Reiner he had no intention of fixing it and the residents will have to or drop off their garbage at the corner.However, it was found that the first house on each side of Kennetta is not part of the development, leaving an open question as to where the garbage could be placed."Our concern is the safety of our crew," said Supervisor Penny Kleintop.Supervisor Guy Seifert said if there is no response with a solution, garbage pickup will be suspended on Jan. 15. Notification will be sent to residents.Reiner said he thought the residents should fix the road and get compensation from George.Resident Mary Beth Beers asked if the township will take over the road if it is brought up to township standards. Kleintop said the township is not taking over any more roads. It has 71 miles and cannot care for more.Other mattersBeers, reporting for the Towamensing Township Historical Commission, said a second run of cookbooks will be ordered. There are only 30 left from the first printing. Supervisor Tom Newman asked if a profit was being made on the books and Beers said there is. It will go toward restoring the Greenzweig School.A road use ordinance has been given to the planning commission for review.Christmas tree pickup will be on Jan. 14.Donations will be made to the Carbon County Home Health Care, $2,000; and Palmerton Area Library, $4,000.Information requested by the township from the Towamensing Fire Company was incomplete, and a $5,000 donation will be held over until the fire company audit is complete. A letter listing other missing items such as a list of officers and more information about the 67 calls that were answered will be sent.Garbage is being left scattered at the recycling center. Caring for the site is a matter of civility, and rules and regulations will be posted, though it was expected residents would care for the site without the posting.It is to be remembered that road maintenance takes priority over garbage pickup when there is snow or ice on the roads. There will be no complaint if a resident puts out extra garbage the following week because it had to be held over. The road crew that picks up garbage also plows the roads.Large items will be picked up for handicapped residents if a request is made to the secretary by the Monday preceding the third Thursday.
