Slatington Borough Council members Bob Steets, Gwyneth Jones, David Schnaars and Joe Wechsler were sworn in by Mayor Walter Niedermeyer for their next four-year term during Monday's reorganization meeting.

Jones was re-elected president of the board while Wechsler took vice president and Bryon Reed remained president pro tem.A two-year term seat remained vacant during the first meeting of the year. A 30-day window for interested parties to submit their letter of intention will open during next Monday's regular council meeting."We have a few ideas," said Jones.Many positions remained occupied by the same people as the previous year.Two vacancies on the Board of Health and Slatington Borough Authority remain with one vacancy on the Civil Service Commission.Committee chairmen and members were appointed following the swearing in of the new board. The Finance, Planning and Zoning committee chair will be Wechsler with Jon Rinker and David Schnaars.Human and Community Services committee will consist of Wechsler and Rinker, with Schnaars as temporary chair until the two-year term seat is appointed.Water Resources chair will be Reed with Steets and Schnaars, Highway committee chair will be Schnaars with Steets and Reed.Public Safety chair will be Rinker with Wechsler. Sewer and solid waters chair will be Steets with Schnaars and Reed rounding out the committee.Former council member Galen Freed had been Right to Know officer. The position will need to be reappointed for the upcoming term."I'll volunteer to do it until someone else is appointed," said Schnaars.The borough secretary/treasurer position also remains vacant.
