Eldred Township held its reorganization meeting Monday evening, but the meeting needed to be delayed. Residents were greeted by Pennsylvania State Police officers and the township constables when entering the municipal building Monday night. All attendees were required to sign in.

As it turns out, too many people showed up and the meeting had to be moved to the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire House. In the end, more than 100 people were in attendance.Supervisor Mary Anne Clausen was appointed chairman, and newly elected supervisor Joann Bush will be vice chairman. Supervisor Sharon Solt will remain as secretary/treasurer through the middle of January, when she retires from her administrative position with the township.According to Clausen the supervisors have been interviewing for Solt's replacement and will hopefully have someone hired before Solt leaves her position on Jan. 15. In the meantime, administrative assistant Ann Velopolcek will take on additional duties and will have her hours increased up to 30 per week until the transition takes place.The current solicitor Mike Kaspszyk has requested not to be reappointed for 2016. The board has not selected a new solicitor as of Monday and will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday to appoint the new solicitor and to appoint a new tax collector.A major new appointment by the supervisors was the hiring of Doylestown attorney, Jordan Yeager of Curtin and Heefner LLC. Yeager was hired as special counsel for water extraction issues. Yeager was hired at $185 per hour.Other appointments included retaining Hanover Engineering as township engineers, sewage enforcement officer and building code official.Berkheimer will remain as the earned income tax collector, and Bush will be the liaison to the tax collector. Gary Hoffman will serve as the township's emergency management coordinator.There were three vacancies on the planning commission, these were filled by Mike Kolba, Archie Craig and Gary Hoffman. The planning commission solicitor will be Dan Lyons at $115 per hour.The three vacancies on the zoning hearing board were filled by Charles Ogle, Bruce George and a third was left vacant when the motion made by Solt to appoint Eileen Eckert failed to get a second. The appointment was tabled until the special meeting to be held on Monday.The supervisors agreed to a 2 percent increase in wages for township employees.Clausen was appointed as the supervisor representative to CJERP, and Robert Boileau was appointed as the planning representative.The monthly supervisor's meetings will continue to take place at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday.
