For the second time in three years, the Tamaqua train station is experiencing the departure of an anchor eatery at the business complex and tourist destination.

Vonz Restaurant, owned by Richard and Von Sidella, closed its doors New Year's Eve after a run of 2½ years at the site, which serves as an official visitors reception center for the Schuylkill River National Heritage Corridor."With very heavy hearts we have decided not to renew the lease with (Tamaqua) SOS," stated the owners in a written statement."We thank you for all your support. We are especially grateful for the relationships that we've developed over the past three years."The statement, posted at the restaurant's front windows, wishes area residents a healthy, happy 2016 and is signed "Rich and Chef Von."When opened in June 2013, Vonz was introduced as the place for fine and casual dining in Greater Schuylkill County.The eatery replaced the former Restaurant at the Station, which had operated on-site for eight years by Bill and Sheri Beltz, closing in December 2012. That closing left the depot without a full-service restaurant for six months until the arrival of Vonz.The signage for Vonz Restaurant was removed from the depot complex by Saturday.The Philadelphia & Reading Railroad Passenger Depot, built in 1874, is managed by Tamaqua Save Our Station, an all-volunteer group that coordinated the $1.5 million restoration of the Victorian complex.
