Lansford Borough has passed a 2016 budget.

Council voted to approve the budget, which raises property taxes by 1.5 percent, at a meeting Tuesday.The budget includes $1,519,080 in expenses. That is about $100,000 more than the 2015 budget, which was $1,402,080.The tax rate will be 33.53 mills. That is 0.5 mills greater than 2015. Of that, 1.4 mills goes toward debt service, 1.02 to parks, 1 to fire service, 2.61 to streetlights, 0.5 to the borough's pension obligations, with the remainder going into the general fund.The tax increase should allow the borough more breathing room after there were some concerns that they would have to borrow from other accounts to produce enough revenue for this year.Borough council was set to adopt its budget at a meeting earlier this month, but a council member said that they had not advertised it long enough to comply with state law.On Councilman Thomas Vadyak's request, they postponed the vote to Tuesday night.Council also agreed to add on about $1,600 in expenses to a proposed generator they hope to have installed early next year. The entire project is set to cost about $8,000.The generator has been long awaited. Previously, during power outages, the borough's police department had to use their cars to provide power inside the station.
