The West End Center for the Chestnuthill group of Monroe Seniors meeting at Zion Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville will be closed Friday due to the Christmas holiday.Lunch will be served again Dec. 30. The first is at 3:30 p.m. The second begins at 7:30 p.m. and the third is at 10 p.m.The church office is closed both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.There will be a Saturday service at 5 p.m.Mass scheduleOur Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will hold the following Mass services during the coming week: Christmas Eve-4, 7 and 10 p.m.;Christmas Day: 10:30 a.m.; Holy Family-Saturday, 5 p.m.; Sunday, 8 and 10:30 a.m., noon and Spanish Mass at 1:30 p.m; and Mary Mother of God (Holy Day of Obligation) Thursday, Dec. 31, 4 p.m.Two servicesSalem-St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will hold two services Christmas Eve. Both services, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., will include carols, Holy Communion and candlelighting. Jeff Hinton is slated to serve as Communion Assistant for the first service, Barb Yarashas for the second.The office will be closed Friday.Three servicesEffort UMC will hold three services on Christmas Eve. They are a 6 p.m. family service, where the children will perform a short play and will decorate the tree; an 8 p.m. traditional choir celebration, where the choir will be singing intertwined with the service and Communion will be offered; and an 11 p.m. service of lessons and carols where beloved carols will be sung and short readings as to their origin will be provided.Christmas EveSt. Matthew's Church, Kunkletown, is having two services with Communion on Christmas Eve. The first is at 7 p.m., the second at 10 p.m.McMichaels UMCA Christmas Eve service will be held at 7 p.m. at McMichaels UMC on White Church Road.Salem serviceSalem UCC in Gilbert will hold a 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service.Polk SupersPolk Township's Board of Supervisors is holding three meetings Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. for the budget adoption. At 6:45 it is a public hearing on an amendment to the SALDO and the zoning ordinances, and at 7 p.m. it's time for the regular Board of Supervisors meeting. These are planned times, but there may be delays or wait time.Seeking soupIn honor of National Soup Month, Western Pocono Community Library will be filling the "barrel" with cans of soup to donate to a local food pantry, the PVEN. Residents are asked to consider helping the library reach the goal of a full barrel of soup to donate by the end of the January. Cans of soup can be dropped off at the library during regular business hours. bkozen@ptd.netNew year scheduleChestnut Ridge Seniors is a club that meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company hall in Kunkletown. Although the meeting begins at 11 a.m., the doors open at 9 a.m. Play cards, games or just chat. Anyone 55 or older may join the group.Lunch is bring-your-own as this is not a county center where meals are served. Coffee, tea, chips and pretzels are served.After lunch, bingo is played.Leading the group are: Janet Gower, president; Gladys Meixsell, vice president; Mabel Hoagland, secretary; Ann Moretz, assistant secretary; Donna Smith, treasurer; Franklin Smith, assistant treasurer; and Shirley Krum, chaplain.Mae Borger, Joan Frank and Shirley Krum are in charge of food and set up.There is a minimal registration fee and cost per bingo card fee.The first meeting of the group in the New Year is Jan. 14.Yoga classesThe yoga classes on Wednesdays at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville will take a break during the holiday season and resume at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 13.Contact Adele Argot at 717-933-4028 or
