The Carbon County Firemen's Association, in conjunction with Bucks County Community College, is providing an instructor for a vehicle rescue series being held at the Nesquehoning Hose Co. 1 Fire Station.

The series is made up of four sessions representing close to 48 hours of training. About 24 people are taking the training, which began in October and is expected to finish by mid-December.The first module, Awareness, was held on Oct. 18, Oct. 21 and Oct. 26. The second module, Operations, is being held Nov. 9, Nov. 15 and Nov. 18. The third module, Technician, will be held Nov. 23, Dec. 2 and Dec. 13, said Nesquehoning Fire Chief and Association president John McArdle. The local level instructors are Brian Markovchick and Robert Ward.As of Tuesday, students were on the Operations module. The classes are being attended by firefighters from the three Nesquehoning fire stations, along with firefighters from Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Lansford and Summit Hill. This is the third time that the Carbon County Firemen's Association has sponsored this series, which consists of classroom lectures along with field work dealing with motor vehicle accidents.McArdle said he has been very pleased with the turnout, given the fact it is the third time it is being held."The training committee felt it was a valuable program and have tried to schedule it in different areas throughout Carbon County. Safety is constantly stressed to the students as they learn proper techniques in stabilization, lifting, disentanglement, cutting and patient packaging," he said.McArdle thanked Toby Krajcirik of Krajcirik Auto of Lansford, who donated four cars, and Kovatch Mobile Equipment of Nesquehoning for allowing the class to practice in one of its yards.
