Seven companies have submitted bids to install handicapped accessible ramps on West Penn Township's municipal building and police station.
Commissioners opened the bids at a public meeting Wednesday. They'll choose the contractor in the coming weeks.Bidders are:• C.E. Ankiewicz Construction & Excavation, Mountaintop: $124,778.• Spotts Brothers, Schuylkill Haven: $113,732.60.• L & K Construction, Pottsville: $121,904.• Balton Construction, Reading: $145,066.60.• Uhrig Construction: Reading: $132,000.• Reilly Mechanical & Construction, Minersville: $123,147.• Bognet, Hazleton $134,400.A bid from Heim Construction Company arrived seven minutes late, at 3:07 p.m. All bids were due by 3 p.m. The bid was not accepted and will be returned unopened.In other matters, commissioners approved the Radiation Emergency Response Fund Act 147 grant agreement for the state fiscal year 2015-2016 in the amount of $13,051.The grant is used to develop and maintain comprehensive multiagency emergency response plans for risk and support in the counties surrounding each nuclear power plant in the state.The county salary board also approved wages for a new lieutenant at the prison. Juan Escalante of Nesquehoning will earn $53,390 - about 21 cents more than his predecessor. He replaces Matthew Lindstrom of Wilkes-Barre, who resigned as of Oct. 6.Escalante, who formerly worked in a similar capacity at the Carbon County Correctional Facility, begins his new job on Oct. 19.
