Palmerton parade set for Sunday
Palmerton’s 24th Annual Halloween Parade will take to the streets on Sunday. It is sponsored by the Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Parade organizer Susan Arner said formation will begin about 2:30 p.m. and the parade will start at 4 p.m.If it rains, the parade will take place on Monday with formation at 6 p.m. and start time at 7 p.m.Participants must check in at Seventh Street and Delaware Avenue on the day of the parade to receive location and parking directions, she said.Also helping to plan the parade, Jane Stroup said, “It looks like organized chaos, but it all falls into place.”The parade will be forming at Seventh Street and Delaware Avenue. The parade will go up Seventh Street to Lafayette Avenue, then turn left on Lafayette Avenue to Second Street, turn left on Second Street to Franklin Avenue, going to Third Street, turn right to Delaware Avenue, turning left and going back to Seventh Street, where the parade will disband.
Any group that is distributing candy is asked to toss it lightly to the curb and allow the children to collect it safely. And all floats with people riding on them are strongly encouraged to have spotters walking alongside for safety purposes.Any person or group interested in participating in the parade should choose a theme. Participants can include: an individual, a costumed or marching group, small or large float no taller than 13 feet, automotive, decorated automotive, patriotic theme, or municipal equipment. No sirens are allowed during the parade.Stroup said that Girl Scout troops, sports booster clubs, cheerleaders and the S.S. Palmer Parent Teacher Organization have all signed up to participate in the parade.“A lot of costumed groups come through,” Stroup said.There will be monetary prizes awarded in all categories except the municipal equipment.Performances for the judges should be limited to two minutes, including loading and unloading performers. Performers on floats should consider staying on the floats to perform since the float is included in the judging.The deadline for preregistration is Thursday and should be returned to Susan Arner at 459 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.
