Carbon offers leaf collection service to municipalities

Carbon County has a leaf collection service available to all municipalities.

On Thursday, the county commissioners approved an agreement with Bowmanstown to utilize the leaf collection vehicle and driver to assist with leaf collection in the town at a rate of $45 per hour. The agreement is in effect until Dec. 31.Commissioners' Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that Bowmanstown is the only municipality that uses this service, and urged others that need leaf collection to contact the county.He said this shared resource is an example of the mission of the Carbon County Council of Governments, which aims to help lower costs to municipalities by sharing services and equipment.For more information on the leaf collection services, or on ways that municipalities that have not yet joined the COG and would like additional information, contact the commissioners' office at 570-325-3611.In other matters, the commissioners acted on or discussed the following items:• Approved an agreement with attorney Michael S. Greek of Lansford to provide legal services to the Area Agency on Aging pursuant to the regulation of the Older Americans Act and state statutes. The agreement shall be in effect from July 1 through June 30, 2018, and rates shall range from $25 to $40.• Approved the resignation of Nadine A. Galloway of Coaldale as a part-time customer service clerk, Domestic Relations, effective Oct. 14.• Approved the change of status for Matthew J. Yaich of Jim Thorpe, from seasonal park ranger II to part-time automation clerk, Clerk of Courts, effective Oct. 19.
