Walnutport Borough passed two motions regarding ordinances Thursday night.
The board also voted to appeal a zoning board decision made at the investment company CRAJ LLC hearing held in September.CRAJ had requested three different variances: the first variance needed is to rezone the buildings at 324 and 326 Washington St. According to the Walnutport zoning ordinance, the building is in an R-1 zone surrounded by R-2, or light residential zoning areas. What CRAJ has proposed to do is to buy up the three connected buildings, demolish the 324 address buildings to create a 10 -space parking lot for the remaining 326 building, which will be converted to an apartment complex. The eight-unit complex needs a total of 16 off-street parking spaces according to borough ordinance. A second variance would be needed to change the number of required spaces for off-street parking. The third issue is that the parking spaces would be placed up to the edge of the property without screening. The Walnutport Zoning Board had granted the variance request for all three.Zoning board lawyer Ed Healy drafted the final decision letter late September.Any resident who wished to file an appeal to go against the ruling has 30 days to do so.The borough made the decision in executive session to appeal on the grounds to buy more time for the borough to weigh its options on the property, according to council President Matthew Newhard Newhard.Council instructed solicitor Michael Corriere to draft a fresh notice for the amount of time trash and recycling cans may be placed curbside before collection. The board agreed to a 24-hour set out time prior to pick up."It was in there before and somewhere got dropped along the way," Newhard said.
