A Schuylkill County judge has sentenced a Tamaqua woman to up to 23 months in the county jail in multiple cases.
Judge James Goodman sentenced Terri L. Kates, 36, in five cases. The sentences for all are to be served at the same time.Kates was charged in each case by Tamaqua police.In the first case, she was charged with using a credit/debit card issued by another without permission; theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property on April 16, 2014. The access device and receiving charges were dropped.Goodman sentenced her to the 18 days served up to 23 months, and to pay $525 restitution to M & T Bank.In the second case, charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property stemmed from an incident on Jan. 2. The receiving charge was dropped during plea negotiations. Goodman sentenced Kates to the 121 days she had already served as of the Sept. 23 hearing to 12 months. She was immediately released on parole.In the third case, Kates was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, and possession of a controlled substance resulting from an incident on Oct. 30, 2013.Charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and criminal use of a communication facility were dropped. Goodman sentenced her to 18 days served to 12 months, concurrent with the first case.In the fourth case, Kates was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after an incident on Jan. 2.The receiving charge was dropped, and Goodman sentenced her to pay $30 restitution to Tamaqua Buy & Sell, plus the 121 days she had already served to 12 months, concurrent with the first case.
